Stephen's new version for Peacock arrives at yet another pivotal moment in our culture. NBC exec Lisa Katz called "QAF" "more than just a show," adding, "it was a ground-breaking and necessary voice for so many people. "But so much has changed in the last 20 years and how wonderful would it be if the next generation didn't have to watch 'Queer As Folk' alone in their dank basements with the sound muted, but with their family and friends and the volume cranked all the way to the max." When the show originally aired, the idea of unapologetic queer stories on TV was so provocative that I felt I could only watch 'Queer As Folk' in secret," Dunn said in a statement. "It is a surreal honor to adapt the notoriously groundbreaking series by Russell T. Stephen Dunn will write and produce the show as well as direct the pilot. Set in New Orleans, the reboot will "follow a diverse group of friends whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy," Deadline wrote at the time. The show will premiere on Hulu at some point in 2022. ![]() ![]() Keitel will also be a series regular and Deadline described the character as "a trans, semi-reformed party girl who is struggling to grow up."Įarlier this year it was reported that Peacock's reboot of the seminal LGBTQ+ series promises to be more diverse. She joins cast members Chris Lowell, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, Francia Raisa, and Suraj Sharma. The casting announcement comes after it was reported last month that trans and non-binary actor Jesse James Keitel had been tapped to star in the show.
